MURIEL GOOD MURIEL GOOD

Muriel was born in Alicante and she is the result of an unusual multi ethnic background and very transgressive one at the time of her birth in Spain, being of African descent with part AfroCaribbean heritage, in addition to other European and ethnic groups such as the Slavic, Asian, Indian, Chinese, and Polynesian, as a consequence she lives syncretism in the first person. Her Caribbean roots are inherited from a pianist father and professor at the Official School of Language, arrived in Spain as a “gallicised” with a Ph.D from the Sorbonne in Paris, at a time when it was not common.

She believes to be enriched by all her story and currently her approach is a multidisciplinary and hybrid one between science, mental health, political and social activism focused on women of colour in Spain. And claiming emotionality as a crucial factor to be taken into account in the artistic expression that encompasses various channels, such as image, poetry and music. In a way, at this point that her particular hybridisation also navigates.
She collaborates with Afronomadness as a writer and a new focus of interest among others, is the correlation between institutional racism and the health of the Black community, directly impacted by the cosmetic industry aimed at the various communities of African descent that harms the reproductive health of women, while interfering with the hormonal dialogue of growing bodies and in reproductive age.
She is also specially interested in focusing the study on the somatisation process caused by the hidden stressors, affecting women of colour and specific to their condition living in Spain. When the essential need to identify these life events and factors of stress hasn’t been met yet; as a consequence the regulatory clinical intervention are not applicable in this case, so that the needs for therapeutic professional assistance from a classic health perspective are impossible to contemplate.
Muriel is a complex world, full of complexity and nuances to be discovered and explored through her poetry, while her critical eye on the healthcare sector is of amazing accuracy. With the right dose of humor that brings us back to today and in the now, to simply enjoy her company.
